Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won't approve of her feelings for her childhood friend, the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn't as weak as Levana believes her to be and she's been undermining her stepmother's wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Qinter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that's been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters? - excerpt from book
Winter by Marissa Meyer is the final book in The Lunar Chronicles and it was a grand finale. I loved it so so much and while reading it I wished it wasn't going to end at all. It was a book that I could not put down at all, it was non-stop action and excitement. If this book was made into a movie, it would be epic. Just like the praises that are printed in the books it's a mix of Star Wars with fairy tale retelling. This series is by far the best young adult science fiction I've read and it is now my all time favourite series.
The characters of the series certainly made this book so alive and well loved. The introduction of a new female character into the story was just like the previous three books, her name is Winter and her knight is Jacin who was introduced in the third book with a side character role. As you can see from the name of Winter, it's a retelling of Snow White hence she is somehow similar to her but definitely unique on her own. Even though Winter is kinda the highlight of the book, Cinder is still the main character and the spotlight is shined brightly on her. Her progress and growth in the story was beautiful, I really love her. The other gals were all fantastic too along with their men, they played their parts so well, had so much growth and supported Cinder perfectly.
The male characters that I loved the most is definitely Thorne and Kai. Thorne brings much wit and sarcasm in the book and often at times his lines made me laugh. Kai on the other hand is such a prince, the kind you want to marry, the kind that can lead a country, he is definitely my book boyfriend. The side character / sidekick in this book is certainly one that is important and also one who brings fun into the series which is Iko. I would not have be able to picture her absence in the book, she is a much needed character. The whole dynamic of the team is flawless, I love every interaction they have with each other, the chemistry among the love interests. I just want these characters to be my real life friends so so much.
On to the plot now, it was twists and turns throughout the whole book and well, it got me, I was so worried, frustrated and sad for the characters when major events happened. I could not predict any of the story at all and it kept me at my toes at all times. At one part I was really holding my breathe for the character and cried for her. There isn't a moment in the book that I wouldn't miss. The flow of the book was perfect, I love the timing of all the incidents.
Without a doubt I love this last book the most and I guess it's because it's the thickest one with a lot more happening in it. The story is so gripping and you'll be constantly imagining all the things that is happening and thinking this would be an awesome movie. Even though it's a fairy tale retelling, there isn't too much that related back to Snow White, everything was fresh and new. It's just a unique story of its own at the end of the day.
PLEASE..... please pick up this series if you have not, I highly recommend it. There is so much hype in the book community and it certainly deserves all the rave. There isn't many science facts that will give you a headache, it's easy to understand and enjoy so don't let sci-fi scare you. I had so much fun reading the whole series and now that I've finished it I'm sad that I won't be able to spend time with the characters anymore. I do foresee myself reading the series again some time in the future so this series is worth keeping as a collection in your bookshelf.
