Gemma had her summer all planned out, but it takes a sharp turn when she gets dumped and finds herself back in the Hamptons after a five-year absence.
Being there puts her at risk of bumping into Hallie, her former best friend (that is, before Gemma ruined her life). But people don't hold grudges forever. Do they?
Gemma intends on making amends, but a small case of mistake identity causes the people she knew years ago - including Hallie and her dreamy brother, Josh - to believe she's someone else. As though the summer wasn't complicated enough already. - excerpt from book
Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend by Katie Finn who is also known as Morgan Matson is a first in a series call Broken Hearts & Revenge. Firstly this book is one of the longest titled book I've owned and I thought it was cute. The reason for me purchasing this book was because of Morgan Matson, I loved her "Since you've been gone" book very much. Without any regard of the rating on Goodreads, I've started the book and I loved it. I think it's because of my love for summer romance books.
Although you would feel that the characters are your typical teenagers, I kinda like typical ones because it feels more realistic. The more realistic they are means the more realistic their actions and reactions can be. I quite like Gemma because she is a person that most girls can relate to, if caught in her situations I think it's reasonable that she acted that way. As for the guy Josh, gradually in the story you get to know him and well he is an easy guy to fall for. Now the side characters play crucial parts in the book because their actions heavily influence the main characters. Some decisions made by the main characters are because of the side characters' involvement.
Honestly, the plot is slightly predictable and surprisingly I still quite enjoyed the book. The twist and turns were funny and some I could already see it coming. I think it's the part where I could see it coming that I love. Sometimes there are some teenage romance books that I would love to dictate, I like to imagine it like a movie and I'm the director. Some romance books can have the characters doing things that are unexpectedly way over the top which is too good to be true. The flow of the book was good and smooth so you're not bored when reading the book at all.
Overall, you can expect a plot that is cliché yet entertaining and adorable to read. It was funny, sweet and at times exciting. I really loved the book so it was a good page turner for me which I completed in two days. If you love teenage romance, summer love story then I highly recommend this book. If you have read Morgan Matson and you love her writing, do read this because it's great. The second book is already out and the last one will be out in May 2016. Sadly, I am waiting for the paperback version because of my OCD of matching books.
