The Heir by Kiera Cass is the fourth book in the series which was announced after the third book was out. The third book was supposed to be last but the author managed to sign for three more books for the series. If you have not read the Selection please stop reading my review here. Like it's predecessor, the cover of the book is just gorgeous, I really love that dress. The book cover designer did a fantastic job.

The story continues to the daughter of America and Maxon, Princess Eadlyn. The whole book is in her point of view. Of course with the Selection happening again, we have a ton of new characters introduced into the story. While the characters that are important from the first three books of the series are already grown up and in their mid thirties to early forties. It's great to read about the oldies with a little bit of what happened to them.



The main focus is the princess who will pick 1 out of 35 gentleman to be her betroth. Honestly, I don't like the princess because of her personality but the male suitors are very interesting people. There is so much we don't know about those boys yet. There are a few that are the main focus in the story and I quite like all of them. It's interesting to read about their personality and their interactions with the princess.  There is minimal growth for the princess, luckily it got slightly better later in the book but at the start she was annoying for me. Other side characters of the book are lovely because their interactions with the princess is wonderful in supporting her.

The plot of the story was very smooth and I could not predict anything. I was surprised at the twists and it gave excitement to the story. I would say that the story seems simple for now but I feel that things might just escalate in the coming books because this book was like an introduction into the world that has already been changed by King Maxon. The twist at the end of the book was fabulous and it was sort of scary too. Because of the ending I'm so looking forward to the next book.

In conclusion, I quite enjoyed the book and it was really entertaining. At the start it was introduction so it was slow but once the Selection started it was very interesting, definitely a page turner. I'm impressed by the author's creativity because she manage to spin the story further on. If you have read the first three in the series, I highly recommend you to continue with this book because it's exciting to read more about America and Maxon.
