American Royals by Katharine McGee is definitely the first of its kind for me with an alternate reality of having a royal family in America. I am totally not equipped with American history so the only thing I know is that it has a president that voted by the people. Where I am from, we have the same system as Britain, we have the royal family and we have a prime minister. So it was quite refreshing to read about this system in America, an interesting setting for sure. Without getting into details of politics as I am not good in it at all, this book is about people and the life circumstances that made them who they are and what they will become.

It's definitely a story full of drama as you have 4 different perspectives of four different ladies with different statuses. All of their lives are intertwined because of their relationships with one another in a different way. I love how these ladies show so much character even with alternating chapters for all of them. Having several point of views in one same venue is an enjoyment as you get the thoughts and reactions of different girls. My favourite would be Princess Samantha and her best friend. When they interact with the support characters, I could not stop reading. The personalities of each of the ladies is certainly unique and understandable base off their upbringing and past experiences. One of them really made me hate her, and of course she is somehow the villain in the book. The relationships that these girls are in made the book fun to read, dramatic at times but at a good dose.  The wonderful boys as support characters are added points for me, they are without a doubt hotties in my imagination. Their personalities are suitable given their backgrounds as well, definitely attractive to the ladies in the books.

The author drives the story onward with dramatic plot twists and I am definitely hooked to it. I often picture all those incidents like I'm watching a teen drama similar to Gossip Girls. I really did not expect how this book would go and how it will go in the next book but the ending definitely encouraged me to wait for the next. The family dynamics is somewhat of a takeaway from the book, you'll see growth and improvement for most individuals.

Love, family, politics and drama is the juicy points of this series and I would say this is a great start to introduce the girls in the book and their counterparts. If you love Gossip Girl then this book is up your alley. If you love royal family settings, don't miss out on this because this has been a fun and refreshing read for me.
