I Believe In A Thing Called Love by Maureen Goo caught my eye through that cutesy girl with her sweet floral skirt cover, so I approached it at the store reading the summary. The word K Drama attracted my attention easily and then ten pages in I was hooked. This is a standalone book highlighting the events of a high school girl chasing after love. I was entertained from start to the end and I love those moments when the author addresses a certain Korean Drama scene. This book definitely portrayed some of my love for Korean Drama. 

There was this section that truly expresses my love:

"Yeah, the stories could be formulaic, downright cliched at times, but with the strong characters, it all worked. Characters that you rooted for, that you hated with the heat of a thousand suns, that you crushed on hard-core, that you envied, that you cared about. They were more real than anything that Oscars served up."

That's how I feel about it, the dramas are cheesy but they are fun and emotional to watch sometimes, truly wonderful entertainment. Anyway back to the book review, I loved the character Desi as her personality is capturing. Her reactions and plans are always funny to read about and I like how her family dynamics are with her father. This book would go nowhere without the relationships of her father and her, because it makes it more emotional and more unique. Her interactions with her father are moments in the book that I love. Her interactions with her friends are usually quite fun to read about too. As for the male character, you could say he is one mysterious guy at first and slowly you would learn more about him through Desi and their moments are certainly entertaining to venture on.

The plot and backstory are well written and I felt truly emotional at certain points of the book. Plot twist were good and not as easily predictable for me. The timing of the book was quite realistic and easy to plot out. I would say that the plot is simple yet it was enjoyable to read about. At the end of the day, this was one fun contemporary book to read and I would certainly treat it as a rom-com genre. If you're looking for a quick read of romance that is funny with a little bit of emotional moments, I highly recommend this. Once in a while I love reading romantic comedy as to romance that are often too realistic with too much thoughts processing needed, my heart needs a break from the sad sob story.
