The Boy Most Likely To

Tim Mason was the boy most likely to:
  • Find the liquor cabinet blindfolded
  • Need a liver transplant
  • Drive his car into a house
Alice Garrett was the girl most likely to:
  • Well, not date her little brother's baggage-burdened best friend, for starters
For Tim, it wouldn't be smart to fall for Alice. For Alice, nothing could be scarier than falling for Tim. But Tim has never been known for making the smart choice, and Alice is starting to wonder if "smart" is always right. Soon they find themselves moving closer to each other-until the consequences of Tim's wild past come back to haunt him. With all Alice has to balance in her own world, is she sure she can handle Tim's too? - excerpt from book.

The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick is sort of the continuation from My Life Next Door but focusing on different characters. Samantha is no longer the main character instead it's about Jase's sister and his best friend. I would say that at first I was not interested as Sam and Jase are my favourite characters but this book was surprising. This is a great example of when life gives you lemons, what do you do with it? Life happens and these teenagers tackled it pretty well I must say. I like how the chapters alternate between point of view of Tim and Alice which gives you more of an insight of how to perceive and judge each other.

I love how messed up Tim is but eventually there is so much growth from him. His interactions with different individuals is just attention grabbing where you want lots of things to happen. Alice is a complicated character with many conflicted decisions to make. I like how her family is influential yet not all the time. Alice's personality is one to capture your attention as well and seeing how she reacts to surprising news is just wonderful. The best part is the family dynamics of the Garrett's just like the previous part and how Tim fit into it is just perfect.

The plot is as smooth as it can gets, the story continues slightly where we're left off from Sam's story. You get Sam and Jase here and there which adds to the build up. I could not predict much of the plot and was caught by surprise with the plot twist. The ending was quite a bitter sweet one but nevertheless a well written one. I guess I love how I can come to enjoy those characters slowly and feeling a little bit emotional for their troubles and tribulations. This is a good book to follow up with the family and I love how this isn't an instant love story. The author did a great job with the characters, so if you're the type who prefers good characters then this is for you. If you've not read My life next door, please do as it'll make this book more enjoyable. Here is my review.

What I Thought Was True

"Heaven by the water".
"Best-kept little secret in New England."
Seashell Island, where I've lived all  my life, is those things and more. And all I want to do is leave it behind.
Gwen Castle has never so badly wanted to say good-bye to her island home till now: the summer her Biggest Mistake Ever, Cassidy Somers, takes a job there as the local yard boy. He's a rich kid from across the bridge, and she hails from a family of housecleaners who keep the island's summer people happy. Gwen worries this will be her fate too, but just when it looks like she'll never escape what happened- or the island- her past explodes into her present, redefining the boundaries of her life. Sparks fly and secret histories unspool as Gwen spends a gorgeous, restless summer struggling to resolve what she thought was true- about the place she lives, the people she loves, and even herself - with what really is.  - excerpt from book cover.

What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick is her second book with the timeline being in the summer just like the book she debut with. Seeing that I like the author's first book so much, I was excited to read this. I thought this book was just okay as the characters were people who are not easy to read. They are people that have many issues in their life that turned them into the people they are now. I think the plot of the story was just bland with nothing exciting happening unlike the boy next door this book had no twist.

This book is more about values of a person who all had different backgrounds and not much about the plot as it seems like a typical summer for a teenager. I didn't think that the characters had great personality nor were they very special people. I thought the relationships between the characters were done well. I didn't like that the actions of a certain character had no consequence and I didn't like the example that it will set on youngsters.

I was quite disappointed with the book as I expected some cutesy summer romance but it was more towards issues that teenagers faced and also about status quo in society which is not totally bad but not fantastic. There were parts that I like and there were parts that were boring. Overall, it was just an okay book and I don't think it would be the type of book that I would read again and enjoy. I would also not recommend you to pick this book unless you really like this author. It's a book that can be skipped and I hope the author would write a better one next time.

My life next door

Samantha grew up with her older sister having a single mother. Her father have left before she was born and her mother took care of both sister with her trust fund. Her mother have taught her many things and her mother was also a sort of perfectionist. When a new neighbor moves in, Sam was excited because she will have new friends to play with. Her mother did not like the Garretts for they are a big messy family.

She always complains about their toys being all over the lawn, complains about why people have so many children and the list goes on. The neighbors were always lively and noisy all the time. Sam is fascinated that they have that kinda of life and she usually sits outside her window and watches the family. She tried to figure out who was who sometimes, pinpointing the names of everyone but there were too many boys. One night while she was watching, she nearly fell when Jase the second son talked to her. She felt shy but also wanting to tell her somethings that was happening in her life. Slowly they fell in love with each other but seeing how Sam's mother was judging the Garretts, she had to keep this relationship a secret.

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick is about a young girl, her summer love and her life. This book is realistic when it comes to teenagers' life and I love it. Although I don't have that kind of life but I bet there will be many who can relate to it. I love the simple writing of the book and the best part for me are the characters of the story.  I love how real the characters react to situation, their thoughts and their actions. Reading this book makes me want to be young again hoping to have a different kind of high school experience.

The plots are smooth and slowly edging to a climax which made reading quite pleasant. I have to say that the printing on the book made me slightly excited to find out what's the secret and what choice was needed to be made. When I found out I thought it was quite a good plot to it. This book really has good meaning to it where it teaches you a moral value. I love books who can always tell a good story, relate to the real world and teaching people at the same time. Although I would not pick up this book to read again anytime soon but when I'm feeling nostalgic of my youth I will definitely read it again.
